French Gourmet Wine Tour Burgundy, France

Amazing luxury wine & gourmet tour in Burgundy, France

5 days/4 nights

September 11 - 15, 2013

Some of the most unique wines in the world, both red and white wines, come from Burgundy. A well made red Burgundy, made from the elusive pinot noir, is a wine of elegance, hardly found anywhere else. You find them in the Côte d’Or, the heart of Burgundy. On this tour you will discover everything from the most exclusive Grand Cru to more humble – but outstanding – village wines from some of the best producers. You will also have plenty of opportunities to taste the fabulous Burgundian gastronomy.

La Côte d’Or, The Golden Slope, is only 80 kilometres (50 miles) long, from Marsannay close to Dijon, down to Santenay and Maranges in the south. If you drive Route Nationale 74 you pass all the famous Bourgogne villages: Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée, Aloxe-Corton, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and so on.

Vines are everywhere, in these villages people work in the wine business, if they are not the baker or the butcher!

Join us on a tour to the Cote d’Or, the heart of Burgundy and you will understand why these wines are world famous. You will meet small, very quality conscious growers and taste their wide ranges of red and white wines. You will enjoy the fruity aromas of the pinot noir, often with a hint of autumn leaves and spices. You will taste the luscious and exuberant white Burgundy wines made from the chardonnay grape. Nowhere else can this well known grape reach the ultimate elegance as it does in Burgundy.

Burgundy is also famous for its gastronomy. Burgundian food includes some of the great classics, like Boeuf Bourguignon, Coq au Vin, jambon persillé, oeuf en meurette and much more. Snails if you want! Burgundy is also one of the regions in France where you find some of the best cheese including our favourite, l’Epoisse.  At the gastronomic meals on this tour you will have ample opportunities to taste the local food and wine parings.

We stay 4 nights at a beautiful de luxe hotel in Beaune, the pretty but very cosy ”capital” of the Cote d’Or. It is a small town with an impressive selection of good restaurants, from, Michelin starred luxury to pleasant café-bistro. One of the sights not to be missed in Beaune is the imposing Hotel Dieu Hospices de Beaune, the charity hospital dating back to the 15th century, now a museum in the town centre.
